About Sosua

Located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, only 4 kilometers from ApartaHotel Picaflores, Sosua is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful white sand beach bordered with coconut and palm trees, stretching around a splendid turquoise bay in which coral reefs are populated by a multitude of tropical fish.

One can find all the amenities of a small tourist town: fifty or so restaurants, bars, discos, modern supermarkets, banks, automatic teller machines (ATM), medical clinics and doctors, etc.

The white Sosua beach is one's dream place to spend a quiet vacation resting on a lounging chair in the shade of a palm tree, listening to the soft sound of the waves...

Water temperature, between 26 and 28^o C (79-82^oF⁾pleases even the most cold sensitive. The bay is calm and so clear that a simple mask and snorkel are enough to discover the vibrant underwater world.

Near the coast, beautiful coral reefs await you. You can dive with one of the many diving schools in Sosua.

Sea outings are also possible. You may choose to spend a quiet day on a catamaran, go on a fishing trip or whale watching in the bay of Samana.

Some prefer to discover the island riding a jeep or a bicycle, or hiking in the back mountainous country. You may also enjoy rafting in the impressive rapids of the area's roaring rivers.

For those who wish to go on a day or half-day trip, there are several interesting destinations: the Amber Museum of Puerto Plata, the colonial district of Santo Domingo, the village of Cabesa del Toro, an international big game fishing base, Santiago de los caballeros, the country's second largest city, famous for its Canival held in February and August, the thriving city of Moka, the quiet coastal village of Rio San Juan and, only 10 kilometers away, Playa Grande, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic.
